Saving for your dream home? A band you’ve been dying to see? Your European girls trip? Planning your savings goals can be fun, but meeting those goals takes a little more time.
How much to save each month
Use our savings goal calculator to determine when you’ll reach your goals — and learn how to save more strategically to hit your target amount.
Using buckets and boosters to reach your goals faster
Want to save even smarter? Take advantage of Ally Bank’s savings tools to shorten your savings timeline. Plus, people save an average of two times more when they use our smart savings tools. Over a 12-month period, people using our smart savings tools grow their Savings Account balances 2x more, on average, than those who don’t. This is based on the average balance growth of accounts opened since we launched our smart savings tools.
Recurring transfers
Don’t risk forgetting a deposit. By setting up recurring transfers to your Ally Bank savings account, saving becomes an automatic part of your life — no calendar alerts or to-do lists needed.
Round ups
Save bit by bit by rounding up your spending to the nearest dollar and automatically transferring that extra money in your savings. Once you link your Ally Bank Spending Account, our tool will initiate a transfer to your Ally Bank Savings Account any time your round ups reach $5.

Surprise savings
Even if you’re not a fan of surprises, it’s hard to say no to unexpected cash. By connecting your primary checking account (whether through Ally or at another financial institution), our Surprise Savings tool will analyze your spending and identify where you could be saving more. Then, it’ll transfer that safe-to-save money into your Ally Bank Savings account automatically. Keep in mind, Surprise Savings will never make more than three transfers in a week or transfer more than $50 at a time.
Savings buckets
Set up savings buckets to track your progress against specific goals. You designate what each bucket is for and what percentage of your paycheck or other income you want to allocate to different categories (up to 30). You can either manually move funds to your savings buckets with the distribution tool or set up automatic contributions.
Reach for the stars
No matter what you’re saving for, these tools are designed to help you along your savings journey.
